in-depth rules

five ways of getting eliminated (go to 'jail'):

1.) Getting hit with a 'live' ball at or below the shoulders. (if the ball touches the ground, ceiling, or wall first than the ball is 'dead' and you are NOT out) (your clothes are part of your body)

2.) getting hit in the head while attempting to duck, DIP, or dive.

2.) catching a 'live' thrown ball. (the thrower is out, and must go to 'jail')

3.) crossing the center-line OR GOING OUT OF BOUNDS. (go to 'jail')

4.) attempting to block a thrown ball with a ball in hand, but dropping YOUR ball in hand as a result of a block.

Three ways to get eliminated teammates back in the game and out from jail:

1.) Catch a thrown ball = 1 teammate.

2.) in some cases, the game may include a 'half-court shot'. If a player can throw a ball through the hoop = All teammates come back - 'jailbreak'. (this can only be done by the last player left on a team).

  • each match will last 60-minutes and consist of as many games as possible within the time frame.

  • Each time a team is completely eliminated play stops and the other team receives one game point.

  • the team with the most game points by the end of the 60-mintues is the winner.

  • jail - the eliminated players stand on the sideline near the halfcourt line.
  • players in jail must re-enter the court in the order they were sent to jail.
  • players are released from jail when a ball is caught (before it hits the ground, wall, or ceiling).
  • stalling - referees can call out “stalling” if balls are not being thrown in a reasonable time frame.
  • Uniforms are considered part of a player's body.  If the uniform is hit you are out. (Thus baggy clothing can be a disadvantage).
  • Any ball that touches the ceiling, wall or ground, is a dead ball and does not result in an out.

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, intentional head shot, explicit language, or badgering the referee may result in immediate ejection from the game, and one less starting player for any further games in the match.

  • All outs will be based off the honor and/or referee system.  A referee will be on hand to call outs but cannot follow every thrown ball.  If a dispute occurs the referee will solve the problem any way deemed appropriate. All decisions by the referee are final.

  • any Dodgeball rules may be changed during the course of the season as deemed appropriate. All teams will be notified of any changes. Input from all players and team managers are encouraged.
